OUR EXPERIENCES
Turn your idea of a museum inside out! The Desert Museum is an AZA-accredited zoo & aquarium, botanical garden, natural history museum, and art institute & gallery. We're 85% outdoors! We offer traditional volunteer/docent opportunities that require applying and training, as well as volunteer opportunities that you can just show up for and do in a single day, like a buffelgrass pull event.

ABOUT US
The Desert Museum is a fusion experience: zoo, aquarium, botanical garden, natural history museum, and art institute & gallery. Our mission is to inspire people to live in harmony with the natural world by fostering love, appreciation, and understanding of the Sonoran Desert.

IMPACT
Governance + Business Model: 501(c)3 nonprofit

Environmental: The main focus of our work is to protect and preserve the biodiversity and ecology of the Sonoran Desert region. Some examples include educating the public on and removing invasive plants like buffelgrass and stinknet, saving species (Mexican gray wolf, Mexican garter snake, pupfish, New Mexico Ridge-nosed Rattlesnake, et al.), and the desert tortoise adoption program.

Educational + Awareness: Summer lecture series offering two weekly lectures by field experts June-August, writing curriculum for local school district, hosting community science projects, connecting art to nature and sustainability, etc.
