OUR EXPERIENCES

Casa Museo Textil Sulca – Andean Living Heritage House – is a family-led cultural sanctuary in Cusco where ancestral knowledge continues to thrive through the daily practice of master artisans representing more than five generations of Andean textile tradition. Visitors experience the complete journey of Andean textiles—from native camelids and natural fibers to spinning, natural dyeing with native plants and cochineal, and ancient weaving techniques—while directly supporting artisan families, preserving living cultural heritage, and contributing to sustainable community livelihoods. Through authentic cultural encounters, travelers gain a deeper understanding of the people and traditions that have shaped the Andean world for centuries.

Our mission is to preserve and celebrate Andean textile heritage by connecting travelers with master artisans through authentic cultural experiences that safeguard ancestral knowledge, strengthen local communities, and create sustainable livelihoods for the families who have kept these traditions alive for generations.

IMPACT

For more than five generations, Casa Museo Textil Sulca has transformed living Andean heritage into measurable community impact. Visitors learn directly from master artisans through hands-on weaving, natural dyeing, and storytelling, helping safeguard Indigenous knowledge while creating fair income for artisan families through direct purchases. The museum also supports women artisans in Ayacucho and the Sacred Valley through partnerships such as Turismo Cuida, Plan Wallata, and TUI Colorful Cultures. Environmental stewardship is embedded in daily operations: alpaca and llama manure is composted, leftover fibers are repurposed into new textiles, and native camelids are cared for under internationally recognized Five Freedoms animal welfare standards. Through immersive interpretation, workshops, and cultural exchange, every visit builds awareness of Peru’s living heritage, demonstrating how responsible tourism can simultaneously strengthen communities, protect the environment, and preserve ancestral traditions for future generations.
