The Global Meaningful Travel Map
Noir Collective AVL
OUR EXPERIENCES
Personal stories accompany every product in our store, making every visit a curated journey into the history of our neighborhood and our vision of reviving The Block. We connect visitors to several landmarks, including YMI, two self-guided trails, and a guided experience with Hood Huggers. While uplifting the promise of Black Asheville, we provide a passive income source to local and regional talent. From incense to shea butter, beauty products, apparel, and jewelry, Noir offers an array of products and represents a variety of service providers. We envision every entrepreneur seeing Noir as a launching pad to their own enterprise.
ABOUT US
Noir Collective AVL is a Black-owned art gallery, boutique, and bookstore featuring Black entrepreneurs and creatives. The shop is located in the Historic Black Business District known as “The Block,” within the retail spaces of the YMI Cultural Center, the oldest operating African American cultural center in the United States.
IMPACT
Noir is a Black, woman- and queer-owned social enterprise which focuses on building, promoting, and maintaining an ecosystem that creates wealth opportunities for Black and other people of color who historically have been marginalized. Through Noir, entrepreneurs have access to expanded visibility and opportunities to grow their network within the tourism industry. Our environmental practices include using natural and recyclable products like glass, paper, metal, and wood. We offer an educational shopping experience through storytelling grounded in the cultural history of our place.
