Drop Bear Adventures – Keep K'gari Clean Project
OUR EXPERIENCES
The Keep K'gari Clean project, founded by Hana from Drop Bear Adventures, brings together volunteers, tourism operators, Traditional Owners, and the local community to protect K'gari through hands-on beach clean-ups and conservation initiatives. Participants experience the island in a meaningful way, removing marine debris from remote beaches while contributing to the preservation of a UNESCO World Heritage-listed landscape and learning about responsible stewardship of Country.
ABOUT US
Keep K'gari Clean is a community-led conservation initiative protecting the natural and cultural values of K'gari through beach clean-ups, education, and collaboration. We unite volunteers, Traditional Owners, tourism operators, and the local community to care for Country and preserve this World Heritage-listed island.
IMPACT
Since 2018, Keep K'gari Clean Volunteers has removed more than 61,000 kg of marine debris from K'gari's eastern beaches, helping to prevent waste from entering fragile ecosystems and harming wildlife. We have coordinated the island's largest post-flood clean-up, engaged more than 500 volunteers, and built partnerships with Traditional Owners, tourism operators, local businesses, government agencies, and community groups. Beyond removing rubbish, we educate participants about marine pollution, responsible tourism, and caring for Country, creating lasting environmental awareness while strengthening community stewardship and collaboration across the region.
